Coal smoke pours from the chimneys of every home in Mont Burke at all times in an attempt to keep the cold of winter in the Gray Lands at bay. The shy above the town is permanently stained black, and the soot covers the cobblestone streets with grime as it falls back down from the atmosphere.
The town of Mont Burke was founded as a small hunting outpost due to the beavers and elk that populated The Moors. several decades after the outpost was founded, coal was discovered by the Dwarves in nearby hills, and the population of Mont Burke boomed from under 300 to just over 1000. Unfortunately, the coal vein dried up after only 7 years of mining, and the larger population had become dependent the flow of coal to keep the deadly cold of winter in the Gray Lands at bay.
